He is originally from Athens, Greece. He completed a degree in Neurosciences and subsequently a degree in Medicine at the Imperial College School of Medicine in London, UK. He trained in interventional cardiology at St George’s Hospital, London. He was awarded a PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences by the University of Athens for his work involving novel echocardiographic predictors of right ventricular dysfunction. He subsequently completed a research thesis at Johns Hopkins University, Maryland USA, on the effect of cigarette smoke on non-platelet thromboxane generation, for which he was awarded a Doctorate of Medical Research by the University of London. He completed further clinical training in structural heart disease (SHD) at the Johns Hopkins Hospital before joining the University of Massachusetts as an Assistant Professor in 2012. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2018 and is currently the Director of the SHD program, Director of Advanced Interventional Cardiology Fellowship in SHD, Medical director of the TAVR program, and Co-Director of Cardiovascular Research and Interim Director of Interventional Cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, and the Royal College of Physicians (London). In addition to SHD, he has a clinical interest in novel device development and complex high-risk coronary interventions. He is the principal investigator in multiple multi-center and PI-initiated clinical and translational trials in the field of coronary and structural heart disease. He has an interest in information technology including clinical practice support software development, database constructs, DICOM interfacing, and is an Advanced Physician Builder for the EPIC EHR.
